MLM Success with a Free Mentor and an Apple Orchard

Does it ever seem like you could be so much more successful if onlywizardwithcrystalball you had a crystal ball to show you everything you needed to know?

There is so much to know when you are building an MLM business from home, especially when you are using the internet.

These days, technology and the web are changing almost every day.  Just look at how Facebook changes its platform so often.

Most people don’t have the money to invest in costly programs or high fee mentors.

The Mentoring For Free program offers fresh and updated training on how to build your Network Marketing business from home using no or low cost methods.

Your Mentors serve you for free with no agenda.

But WHY do Network Marketers need to align themselves with a MasterMind group in order to be successful?

We have been discussing this very issue on our Mental Cleanse calls, most recently with Chapter 5, Specialized Knowledge, in Think and Grow Rich.

My fellow mentor, Ken Klemm,  submitted a brilliant lesson to explain this principle using a fabulous Apple Orchard story.

Enjoy!

Apple_Orchard

“So, You want to go into the apple business?

GREAT! Where will you go to learn all about apples, how
to plan an orchard, the tools You will need, and where
to get them and how to use them, etc?Is there an Apple University? Well, there are many fine
schools who have an agriculture department – and lots
of books available.

Maybe You already have an apple orchard, but You’re
having some challenges.

Where will You turn for help? Visit some orange groves
in Florida? Nice vacation maybe, but it’s apples and
oranges!

What about pineapples? Kind of SOUNDS like apples…
No?

How about the U.S. Apple Association? …Better.

Maybe You should look to Your local state apple growers
association. After all, growing apples in Washington is
probably a little different than growing them in
Wisconsin or Virginia.

But why would other apple growers share their tips and
SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE with You? Why would they
cooperate with a competitor?

Because there is a big demand for apples and the things
people make with them. Helping You with Your orchard
makes the apple industry stronger.

If something goes really wrong at Your orchard, it
could adversely affect the industry in the entire
region, possibly even nationwide. Consumer health,
confidence, etc.

So, these folks are Your BEST source for help. Not only
are they actually DOING what You want to do, they also
have a vested INTEREST in Your SUCCESS.

The only place apple growers compete is at local,
county, and state fairs.

Mentoring For Free is the MLM growers association.

Don’t want a big, massive orchard? Just a few trees?
GREAT! We will help You too – ESPECIALLY You. Because,
actually, YOU ARE THE HOPE FOR THE WORLD!

Your Friend and Servant,
Ken Klemm – Florida, USA

P.S. By now You may think I have a passion for
apples… Not really, but I SAW an orchard once. I even
had a wild apple tree in my backyard.”

Get it?  If you do, you can download my free ebook, Success In 10 Steps, and start finding out what you can learn from the MLM Growers Association.

Be a Real Person Online

One of the sites Network Marketers use to promote themselves is Twitter.

Network Marketing is a People Business, so it is important to present yourself as a real person.

2 Minute Network Marketing Tip…Be a Real Person

Twitter enables users to send direct messages to their followers.

You are limited to 140 characters, so you must be brief and to the point.

Being “to the point” does not mean throwing your business opportunity in front of people.

Always offer value.

1.  Use Your real name

2.  Use Your real photograph

3.  Invite people to your social network site, like Facebook, or your blog.

How Your Body Talks To Prospects

One of the greatest challenges Network Marketers face is How To Talk to Prospects.

talkingmouth

Everyone knows how to talk to people, we do it every day.

But when it comes to talking to potential customers or business partners we suddenly lose the ability to relate to them on a personal basis.

Most people tend to enter this salesman mode and start regurgitating the script we were taught to use by our upline sponsors.

Staring_Eyes

As we see the people we are talking to going stone cold with glazed over eyes, we soon realize there has to be a better way.

Exactly what to say is covered in another post.

But here, I want to draw attention to how our body language talks to prospects.

What our hands, feet, posture, and eyes are saying to a prospect can make or break the relationship.

In an article on RealSimple.com, What is Your Body Language Saying?, they list several examples of positive and negative body language.  Below are some examples of what to do right.

Smile with your whole face.

Make sure you are always presenting a warm, genuine smile from your heart.  Honest smiles use all of your facial muscles…even those “crow’s feet”!

Stay calm.

When you’re nervous you may blink more, close or rub your eyes, lower your gaze, shift your weight, massage your forehead, pick your nails, and bite or lick your lips.

Subconsciously your prospect will pick up on your discomfort.

Be honest.

When a person tells a lie, which includes embellishing a company’s pay plan or withholding negative clauses in the contract, their habits will give it away.

Tell-tale habits when someone is lying are scratching the nose, concealing one’s hands, and looking at the other person longer than usual.

Be interested.

Nodding your head, leaning forward, tilting your head towards the other person, raising your eyebrows, and keeping your arms and legs unfolded are all ways to show your prospect that you are interested in what he/she has to say.

Ways in which we impart confidence and authority, include standing with your legs apart and spreading your things out around you rather than keeping things right in front of you or in stacks.

Keeping your hands open and using hand and arm gestures gives the impression that you are warm and agreeable.

bodylanguage

Body language is important because it speaks to the other person on a subconscious level.  It is how we communicate emotionally.

Body language affects the gut reaction the other person gets about you.

Make sure you practice talking to someone while standing in front of a mirror.  You can talk to your kids, your dog, or your teddy bear.  Just be comfortable in your own skin.

While talking to a potential prospect, always make a quick mental note of how your body feels and what you are doing with yourself.

Remember to relax, be open and genuinely warm.  This is the most important key to building confidence in your relationship with your prospect.

Famous Superstar Endorsement Means Squat in MLM

Oh dear….I feel a need to get on my soapbox, so ya’ll better listen up!

Sometimes I just need to speak up about something I think can cause a lot of grief for my fellow network marketers.

star

Every time I see someone shouting out about some famous superstar endorsing their MLM company’s product, and how THAT PROVES how wonderful their business opportunity is I just want to scream!

STOP!  STOP!  STOP!  DON’T GO THERE!

Companies who seek to put their credibility on the value of a famous star’s endorsement are more about hype and distracting prospect’s attention to glitz than the real business opportunity.

My friends, the ONLY WAY to evaluate an MLM business opportunity is to measure it up against the 5 Pillars.

Does the Company Management have Experience and Integrity?

Has the Company passed the “early failure” Time Line?

Is there a Reasonably Priced Remarkable Product?

Compensation Plan & Part-Timers?

Is there a System for Success?

Whenever someone presents me with an opportunity, I always ask for the Contract and Policies and Procedures.

clipart-man-reading-a-contract-with-magnifying-glass

Fully understanding these two documents is where your Network Marketing business is going to be built.

It has absolutely NOTHING to do with Mr. or Ms. Famous Superstar.

They know nothing about how the average network marketer builds a business or networks…it sure isn’t by schmoozing!

Famous endorsers have their Business Agents make these deals for them based on how profitable the deal will be for the Super Star, NOT the network marketers who will be building the business.

Think about it…where do you think the company is getting the money to pay for the endorsement?

Do you think it is going to come out of corporate’s budget or out of the pay plan?

Hmmmm….

OK, I’m climbing down now.

Innocent Questions That Prompt Prospects to Make Decisions – Now!

I am being lazy with this post…but it is still a very valuable article because it comes from no one other than…

drumroll

Tom “Big Al” Schrieter!

Tom creates amazingly funny and simple trainings for all network marketers, no matter what stage of business building we are in.

You can sign up for Tom’s free newsletter at www.FortuneNow.com.

This training is one of Tom’s favorite topics How to Talk to Prospects.

I’m sitting across the prospects’ kitchen table. They are afraid to make a decision. They’re thinking:

“We don’t want to make a mistake.”

“What if we make the wrong decision?”

“Let’s think it over and delay any decision until we have to.”

“What if we fail?”

“Maybe we should just take our time thinking about this.”
And they’re thinking . . . and thinking . . . and thinking. Oh, if they would only make a decision, any decision, it would be wonderful. I could go home. They could get on with their lives.

But no. That would be too easy. The prospects insist on torturing themselves with indecision. They don’t realize that “not making a decision” is really making a decision to keep things just as they are.

AmtrakTrain

For example, the train is pulling into the station. You don’t know if you should board the train or not. So you think, think, think . . . and soon, the train has already left the station. Your indecision actually made a decision:

You’re not going to be on that train.

You and I know this. Our prospects don’t.

Our prospects don’t realize that when they delay making a decision about our business, they are effectively making a decision to keep their lives the same.

And keeping their lives the same is okay. It’s just that they should be consciously making that decision.

ask

So here are a few questions that you can ask your prospects. They’re innocent, non-aggressive questions. These questions will help your prospects make a conscious decision on what is best for their lives.

1. What will happen if you don’t join our business?

Of course the answer is:

“Nothing.”

But you don’t answer that question. Let the prospects mentally answer that question for themselves. They’ll probably be thinking this:

“Life will be the same. Tomorrow will look just like today. We’re going to wake up early, commute to work, come back late, grab a quick meal, watch a few minutes of television and go to sleep. Yep, we’re going to get this routine over and over again – until we’re too old to work.”

Not a very pretty picture, is it? Now if the prospects choose to leave everything the same, if they choose to avoid your opportunity . . . that’s okay. They are making a decision. And that’s all we ask.
Try some of these to see if one fits your style.

2. If you don’t start your own business now, do you see yourself always working for someone else?

3. What do you think will happen next year if you decide not to make any changes this year?

4. Do you think your job routine (five days a week, two weeks of vacation every year) will ever change?

5. I see that you’re kind of stressing out about risking a change in your daily life. Why not just relax and enjoy your life as it is?

6. You don’t have to make a decision to start your own business tonight. Instead, you could simply make a decision to not start your own business and keep your present job routines.

7. You know, you might be thinking, “My daily routine isn’t so bad. Maybe I’ll keep living this way.” And that’s also a good decision. Do you think that might be best for you?

failuresuccessdecision

All of these questions remind our prospects that the pain of their problems won’t go away by postponing a decision.

So make it easy for your prospects.

Remind them to make a conscious decision about their futures.

And remember, this technique is rejection-free.

We’re not attached to the outcome.

We’re not responsible for the decisions they make in their lives.

We’re only obligated to give our prospects the choices.

The rest is up to them.

Isn’t Tom fantastic?!?

Another great benefit of getting Tom’s Newsletter, is knowing where he will be in the country so you can catch him at one of his seminars.

Meeting Tom in person and learning from him face to face is an experience you cannot do without!

See you there!

Cleaning Up Your Online Profile

I read an article today from Monster.com How To Clean Up Your Online Reputation.

stressedoutguyatcomputer

With the way Network Marketers use the internet to create a high profile presence for themselves, the information may be of use to some of us.

There is always a chance that people we network with us will post something that would shed a negative light on us.

Or maybe there are family or friends that have posted something about us that would be seen as unsavory in the business world.

Since most Network Marketers are building their businesses part-time around a job, or a spouse’s job, negative material created form our MLM lives could be damaging to our professional 9 to 5 lives.

Check out the article and keep the information in the back of your mind if the occasion ever arises to need to use it.

What Facebook Groups to Join

One of the activities Network Marketers engage in on Facebook is joining groups.

When your purpose is to network with other people involved in MLM who you may want to attract to your business, you want to join groups relating to network marketing and MLM.

too-many-friends

You can also join groups whose interest is a particular company or specific lead generation system.

With these groups, the hope is to connect with others who may be struggling to make money in the company they are with.

Groups focused on more general topics like self development, internet marketing, or women in business, will have more members who are not involved in MLM.

While valuable for personal growth and learning, these groups are not as appropriate for finding potential business partners.

You want to join groups that are active.  Those should end up at the top of your search list.

Look for number of members and see if people have joined recently.

Look on the group’s site and see if the group owner posts events and discussions on a fairly regular basis.

Join_Us

Once you join a group, pay attention to the messages the group sends you.

About once a week is enough, otherwise it gets too time consuming and annoying.

Are they sending valuable content to help you solve your problems or are they spamming you for their opportunity?

If groups annoy you with their messages or event invitations, or don’t do anything at all (messaging encourages activity from other members) then leave the group.

Periodically go through your groups and leave the ones you are not active in or ones that are not growing or offering content.

Remember, your time is money.

As an entrepreneur building a business from home…probably part time along with all of your other life’s demands…you cannot afford to waste time.

Think the Economy is Too Bad For Your Business to be Successful

I saw a bumper sticker this morning that really turned a light on for me.

bizisgreat

Think about this for a moment.

Don’t our beliefs in the economy and life in general have some affect on how successful we are?  Or at least on our perception of how successful we are?

I was talking to a lady recently who was interested in starting a home-based business.

She had downloaded my free ebook, Success In 10 Steps, a Network Marketers guide to success in MLM.

She wanted to learn more about the industry before jumping in.  Smart move.

After chatting awhile, she shared her doubts in starting a business right now because of the down turned economy.

economy

She thought the economy was so bad that nobody could afford the products.  Any products from any company.  She just didn’t believe that people had the money to spare.

Ding!  Ding!

My new contact had hit upon a very important belief system that stands in the way of many people becoming successful with their home based businesses.

It is in such contradiction with the fact that the Network Marketing Industry tends to boom during times of financial crisis.

The crucial point to be made here is that a person’s belief is what drives their choices, success, and energies.

success-mountain

We are in charge of our own realities.

You will be successful if you believe you are successful.

You will be successful if you believe that you deserve to be successful.

You will be successful in building your home-based business—whether it’s direct sales or MLM—if you believe the economy is healthy and people can afford your product.

Napoleon Hill reminds us that “Our thoughts are things”.

We can believe our reality into existence, even if it takes just a simple bumper sticker to help us declare it to the world.

You will be successful if you believe in positive thoughts and affirmations and practice them multiple times a day.

Pay to Learn How To Generate MLM Leads

Prospecting 103…the Professional Coach

Still can’t get it? Better head for some one on one Professional Coaching, Sister!

Yes, there must be something so terribly wrong with me that I need to plunk down a couple of grand to have an expert coach me through this process that is so idiotically simple for everyone else.

Fees do vary amongst the selection coaches who specialize in working with network marketers teaching us how to talk to Cold Market prospects.

How they offer their programs, content, length of time for training, and stipulations for personal individualized help also vary widely.

And they DO honor major credit cards.

Well, fortunately for this single Professional Mother of three, I didn’t have the cash OR the credit to take advantage of this golden opportunity.

So now what?

Now that everyone you know, care about and love…heck, even the people you ran into at the mall…are in the Prospect Protection Program, what do you do?

I have been fortunate enough to have learned the difference between one of these coaches and a Mentor.

Noun Singular mentor (plural mentors)

1. A wise and trusted counselor or teacher
Verb to mentor

2. (transitive) To act as someone’s mentor

A Mentor will build you the Person as the central part of what they offer you.

A Mentor will give without having any expectation of you the Person aside from your personal growth.

In the book, The Slight Edge, by Jeff Olson, the author talks about finding a mentor in Chapter 9. He says your mentor is like your hero.

You should seek out a mentor who is an expert in the area of your own goals and aspirations and focus on him/her.

Working with a mentor is learning through modeling.

Energetic Network Marketer Learns 5 Secrets to Writing Headlines from Soggy Oregon

All Network Marketers use headlines in their advertisements. The principles behind a good headline needs to be used in all subject lines, article titles, and even at the top of your profiles.

The headline is what catches your audience’s attention. It has to peak curiosity and arouse emotions enough to get your audience to read further.

The ultimate goal is to create enough interest to get them to “click through” to your website and sign up for your offer.

Curiosity-and-Interest-Curious-George

The secret formula to writing headlines is to create a character, usually yourself, and include the following components.

1. Personality

2. Odd Number

3. Benefit

4. Occupation

5. Location

Personality is going to be a descriptive adjective: energetic, busy, loyal, intuitive, ingenious.

Odd Number can be an age, years, items, etc.

Benefit is the good thing that awaits anyone who “clicks through” (success, endless leads).

Occupation is what the character (or you) does for a living (butcher, baker, candlestick maker).

Location is where the character lives: L.A., New York, the sticks, on a mountain top, Timbuktu.

Play around with this formula to suit whatever you are marketing.

  • Start by writing down something for each component.
  • Then rearrange the components to create your headline sentence.

Once you have your headline written, go to the Advanced Marketing Institute and enter your headline into the free headline analyzer.

It will give you an Emotional Marketing Value analysis and rate it for a predominant emotion classification (Intellectual, Empathetic, Spiritual).

Each classification tells how the category of words work and who is the best target audience.

Most professional copywriters get a score between 30% – 40% EMV words with the best coming in at 50% – 70%.

Using the Headline Formula, I wrote the headline for this post. When I entered it into the AMI headline analyzer, I got a score of 50% EMV and the predominant emotion of empathetic.

I do not have any professional marketing education. I learned this skill from a Mentoring For Free training.
