First of all I want to wish you and your family a HAPPY NEW YEAR celebration and a blessed year 2011 ahead with much JOY, HAPPINESS and PROSPERITY!

The end of a year always holds something good for us.

It allows us to reflect back to see what we achieved and to plan ahead on how to surpass yesteryear without the failures of the past.

For me, 2010 was an awesome year with oodles of excitement as well as increasing my knowledge and results in building my Network Marketing business.

Many people crossed my path during the last 12 months.

I have been so blessed to help alleviate people’s frustrations when it came to understanding how to build their network marketing businesses.

I found during our conversations that many people face the same challenges.

The challenges I heard included

1. How to find qualified people to talk to without emptying the bank account or maxing out credit cards;

2. How to put all of the information available out there into an organized system to be able to learn the skills needed to bring results;

3. How to logically evaluate opportunities in order to avoid scams and find the best business to build one’s dream income.

When in business for ourselves, only having contact with our business partners via the internet, can leave us feeling isolated.

The tools we employ to keep ourselves motivated and focused are crucial to our success.

Writing our purpose, our why, our self-talk, and identifying the things that are important to us are how we develop dream boards.

“Me and My Dream House” 

Posting a visual representation of our dreams and goals on a bulletin board or on a desktop slideshow are easy ways to make a dream board that can be seen all day.

One of the keys to successfully achieving your goals and realizing your dreams is to set aside meditation time each day, preferable first thing in the morning.

If that timing doesn’t work for you, meditate while you are in the shower.

               
“My Dreams and Wishes for my Family”

• Find a quite spot, without distractions. 
• Close your eyes.
• Get a mental picture of your goal/dream in your mind.
• Most importantly, focus on how you will feel when you have that goal in your hands.
• Imagine that you are already there.
• Do not think about how you will get there.
• Just focus on the awesome emotions you will be experiencing when it is a reality.
• Meditate for 5 to 10 minutes.
• At least once a day, twice is better.
• And remember, don’t worry about how you will get there.
• Worry will only cause you added anxiety and fear of failure…the emotions that will surely stand in the way of your success!

Once you create the habit of visualizing early in the day, start visualizing at bedtime.

After you’ve tucked the kids (or pets) into bed, kissed your significant other goodnight, and turned out the lights, focus on those goals!

Don’t think about your day or what you have to do tomorrow.  Only think about your dreamboard and feel what it will be like once you are in possession of those things.

I created an album on Facebook to share my dream board. This takes courage since some of the pictures represent very personal growth goals and dreams for my family.

To declare my intentions to achieve these goals to the “Universe” is an important step to accepting the abundance of receiving them.

I also want to share my dream goals with others who may still be struggling with making their own dream boards and can get some ideas from mine.

At home, I have some of my goals and dreams on the wall by my desk.

I also have 2 slideshows on my computer desktop.  I have Windows Vista which has the feature of a sidebar.  One of the gadgets is a slideshow and you can have as many as will fit.

One of the slideshows are my personal and family dreams and goals and the other slideshow are my specific goals and visualizations for my business.

I also say with my meditation a self talk I learned from Dr. Wayne Dyer:

“I honor my worthiness to receive God’s blessings and abundance.”

“Ogres are like onions, we have layers.”

Our personalities, our inner selves, are made up of layers, like an onion has layers.

As we work on our personal growth, we focus on different issues, major and minor, as they surface in our layers.

Our issues are not settled in our psyches in a chronological fashion.

We deal with old feelings, events, insecurities and hurts…what we call our baggage…on a very personal level.

It is all about our readiness.

Personal development (or self help) is just that, personal.  As you, the individual, work on your self and overcoming your old baggage, you will work on your issues as you are ready to at the time.

How do you know you are ready to work on something?

You will see it for yourself!  Whatever you are not ready to deal with, will remain invisible to you.

Then, as you keep working on your personal growth, different layers of your onion will be peeled away, and you will begin seeing issues you didn’t realize were there.

One of the best actions I have taken in my personal growth is in joining the Mental Cleanse.  I know I promote this group a lot, but it is with good reason!

I have been through the mental cleanse about 3 or 4 times.

I came to the place where I felt I worked as far as I could with the mental cleanse, so I stopped participating.

I still did activities to work on my personal growth.  I read motivation and self help books and I participate in other trainings.

These actions have all contributed to helping me peel back more of my layers until I was ready to see the next major issue holding me back in my success.

As I spoke to one of my mentors about my revelation, she told me to do the mental cleanse again!

Well, of course, I thought it would be a waste of time, after all I have participated so many times before!

But after talking with my mentor a bit, I knew the wisdom in her advise. 

So, today I will be on the mental cleanse call and I will speak up and participate.

Most people who have no business background yet start a home based business, usually have a lot of work to do on their personal development and self belief.

One of the first steps a newbie in MLM (or any other kind of home based business) does is create a positive self talk or self affirmation.

The purpose of self talk is to convince oneself that he/she is successful, confident, healthy, wealthy, etc.

It is a daily exercise in changing your belief system.  If you believe in your ability to be successful in growing your business, then you will be successful.

Many people want to be successful and go forth with starting a business, but subconsciously they do not believe they can be successful.

We must understand the law of nature in that our subconscious mind rules our conscious mind!  This includes our emotions. 

Only the dominant thoughts, beliefs and emotions in our subconscious mind will prevail.  Our success, wealth and happiness depend on our subconscious.

The only way to control our subconscious mind is through constant daily self talk (self affirmations) and mental exercises and habits.

• You must say your self talk every single day from the time you wake up in the morning until you go to bed at night.
• Say it at least 100 times a day.
• When you go to bed, focus on your self talk and your goals.
• Actively visualize yourself having what you want.

Many newbies to MLM continue to have a lack of success with their self talk and business building.

If a person’s belief is extremely damaged he has to start his personal road to recovery with very small baby steps.

Self talk will not work if you are constantly creating opposition in your mind!

If a person says:

• I am healthy.
• I am wealthy.
• I am successful.

but has so much negative subconscious programming that they cannot truly believe they are healthy, wealthy, and successful, it will never happen!

It is like the kitten in the mirror being told by her sponsors to “Believe you are a lion!” or say “I am a lion!”  But the kitten’s belief is so opposite to those statements, becoming the lion will never happen.

What if the kitten can’t get the subconscious image out of her head that she is stuck in a fishbowl?

For a person having trouble getting around their negative programming, they can say simply

• health
• wealth
• success

And that is it!
Get the belief in the words into the subconscious first.

Eventually, if followed through with, the person will feel more confidence and belief in their ability to be healthy, wealthy, and successful.

Then it will be time to use statements with “I am…” in them for self talk.

The road to personal development can be a long and winding road for some people.  It can also feel scary and treacherous.

You don’t have to do this alone!

Your success also depends on having mentors who will believe in you until you can believe in yourself!

In Network Marketing/MLM, average people enter the entrepreneurial dream land of starting our own home based businesses. 

We are a tribe of amateurs. 

If we are committed to succeed and stick with the business, we need training in every aspect of business from lead generation to personal development.

We often come to the arena loaded with doubts and preconceived notions of how we should go about growing our businesses.

The best way to overcome our doubts is through personal development.  This not only includes reading from the standard library of self improvement business gurus.  We also need to saturate our lives with positive and inspiring stories, music, art, whatever touches us.

I saw a bumper sticker this morning that really turned a light on for me.

Think about this for a moment.

Don’t our beliefs in the economy and life in general have some affect on how successful we are?  Or at least on our perception of how successful we are?

I was talking to a lady recently who was interested in starting a home-based business.

She had downloaded my free ebook, Success In 10 Steps, a Network Marketers guide to success in MLM.

She wanted to learn more about the industry before jumping in.  Smart move.

After chatting awhile, she shared her doubts in starting a business right now because of the down turned economy.

She thought the economy was so bad that nobody could afford the products.  Any products from any company.  She just didn’t believe that people had the money to spare.

Ding!  Ding!

My new contact had hit upon a very important belief system that stands in the way of many people becoming successful with their home based businesses.

It is in such contradiction with the fact that the Network Marketing Industry tends to boom during times of financial crisis.

The crucial point to be made here is that a person’s belief is what drives their choices, success, and energies.

We are in charge of our own realities.

You will be successful if you believe you are successful.

You will be successful if you believe that you deserve to be successful.

You will be successful in building your home-based business—whether it’s direct sales or MLM—if you believe the economy is healthy and people can afford your product.

Napoleon Hill reminds us that “Our thoughts are things”.

We can believe our reality into existence, even if it takes just a simple bumper sticker to help us declare it to the world.

You will be successful if you believe in positive thoughts and affirmations and practice them multiple times a day.

“Two battleships assigned to the training squadron had been at sea on maneuvers in heavy weather for several days. I was serving on the lead battleship and was on watch on the bridge as night fell. The visibility was poor with patchy fog, so the captain remained on the bridge keeping eye on all activities.

“Shortly after dark, the lookout on the wing of the bridge reported, ‘Light, bearing on the starboard bow.’

” ‘Is it steady, captain,’ which meant we were on a dangerous collision course with that ship.

“The captain then called to the signalman, ‘Signal that ship: We are on a collision course, advise you change course 20 degrees.’

“Back came a signal, ‘Advisable for you to change course 20 degrees.’

” The captain said, ‘Send, I’m a captain, change course 20 degrees.’

” ‘I’m a seaman second class,’ came the reply. “You had better change course 20 degrees.’

“By that time, the captain was furious. He spat out, ‘Send, I’m a battleship. Change course 20 degrees.’

“Back came the flashing light, ‘I’m a lighthouse.’

“We changed course.”

Covey compares our Principles to Lighthouses….like in the story.

He has also compared our Paradigms to maps. So, our Principles are the territory.

See the difference?

Principles are NOT practices and they are NOT values.
“Principles ARE deep, fundamental truths that have universal application.”
“Principles ARE guidelines for human conduct that are proven to have enduring, permanent value.”

Examples of Principles Covey gives are…

• Fairness
• Integrity
• Honesty
• Human Dignity
• Service
• Quality or Excellence
• Potential
• Growth
• Patience
• Nurturance
• Encouragement
  

At the end of this section, Covey states that the more closely our paradigms (maps, theory, perception, assumtion, frame of reference) are aligned with our principles (natural laws, fundamental truths), the more accurate and functional our paradigms will be.

One of the books I have enjoyed immensely is The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen R. Covey. 

The great thing about investing your time into personal development is that it impacts your entire life, not just your business.

Over on Facebook, I have a group called  The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People for MLM & Network Marketing.

Several times a month, I host discussions on the book.  I decided to make double use of my efforts and share those discussions here.

The next step in the lessons about our paradigms, or our perceptions or assumptions, is the Paradigm shift.

Often in life we are faced with circumstances that challenge the way we view the world and interact with it.

Covey gives several examples of paradigm shifts in our history…

• Ptolemy believed the earth was the center of the universe,
• Copernicus created a paradigm shift by proving the sun is th ecenter of the Universe.
• Sir Isaac Newton shited paradigms in Physics
• Albert Einstein shifted paradigms in Relativity.

About Paradigms Shifting, Covey says,

 “…whether they shift us in positive or negative directions, whether they are instantaneous or developmental, paradigm shifts move us from one way of seeing the world to another. And those shifts create powerful change. Our paradigms, correct or incorrect, are the sources of our attitudes and behaviors, and ultimately our relationships with others.”

On a more personal level, we often experience Paradigm Shifts when we…

• face a life-threatening crisis
• suddenly step into a new role (spouse, parent, manager, etc.)
• come face to face with a stranger undergoing a hardship and find ourselves involved in some way.
  

All of these events and more, minor to major, cause us to almost immediately to reorganize our priorities.

Anyone of you remember the total avalanche of feelings that came over you the first time you held your newborn child in your arms?

Talk about some Paradigm Shifting!

Seeing is Being.

Some Paradigms shift quickly and some shift over time. In order to SEE something differently, we need to BE differently.

This requires investing in the growth and development of our own characters.

Success coaches are always telling their clients to believe, believe, believe! You gotta believe!

Getting the theory of believing from your head to your heart is not always an easy trip. Believing in whatever it is you want means honestly believing it with all of your being. But how do you get there?

One of the favorite techniques for building belief is through visualization.

Visualization is like making a mind movie about what you want. Kick your imagination into gear.

Think about what IT is you want.

Make a picture of IT in your head.

Think of how you will feel when you get IT.

Imagine the smells at the moment you get your hands on IT.

Listen to the sounds or the music that you will hear when you embrace IT.

Invite in your mind who will be there when you finally have IT.

Now, focus your mind on this mental picture every day. LIVE it in your thoughts. Concentrate on how your senses are filled.

If you keep programming your brain with this mental picture, the day will come when you hold your desires in your hands.

I hope you find it as inspiring as I have.

“The one impossible thing that I want you to believe today – and I really mean BELIEVE it with every ounce of your being – is that you CAN.

You CAN achieve success.

You CAN do anything that you WANT to do.

You CAN … fill in your own blank!

With that fundamental belief, anything that is physically possible is within your range. At at times, even disability isn’t a barrier if you have sufficient belief.

I read just this morning about a young man who was a successful mountain climber. He had a fall and trapped his arm between two rocks.

He had a choice that most of us couldn’t imagine having to take – he could hang there until he died, or he could cut off his own arm.

He chose to live. But that horrific tale isn’t the end of it.

He could easily have decided that without an arm, his mountain climbing days were over, but not this guy. He has the fire of ‘I Can’ burning like a torch inside of him.

He now has a prosthetic arm, shaped like a pirate’s hook and he is back climbing mountains like he never left off.

You don’t need to cut off your own arm to prove that you can climb mountains – and we all have different mountains to tackle in any case.

What you do need is an absolute, unshakeable certainty that you CAN climb it.

When you KNOW that you CAN, actually doing it doesn’t seem so hard after all.”
