How a mission statement builds your mlm business

Tags: , , ,

Most people who get into MLM, have hopes of running their own part-time business and making some extra money to stretch their budgets.

97% of people will fail at MLM.

There are many reasons why people fail.
One of those reasons is a failure to make a plan and set goals.

Part of this process is writing a mission statement.

A Mission Statement is not just for large businesses and organizations.  Everyone should have a personal mission statement.

A mission statement helps you focus your efforts towards your goals.

Napoleon Hill teaches in Think and Grow Rich that your goal must be a burning desire.  Additionally, you must write it down as your “chief aim in life”.

Jeff Olson teaches goal setting in The Slight EdgeWrite it down, make it specific, and give it a deadline.

In The 7 Habits of Highly Successful People, Steven Covey devotes a chapter to understanding your principles, identifying your goals and writing your mission statement.

When you have developed a clear vision of your mission statement, you will find yourself coming closer and closer to achieving your goals

As you achieve your goals and grow through your personal development, you will find the need to modify your mission statement.  It is never a static thing.  You will be rewriting to meet your changing needs.

How do you write your mission statement?

You can use a personal development book that will walk you through it.

Or…you can use this nifty free online tool I found that will help you write your mission statement in about 5 minutes.

Go to the Online Mission Statement tool and you will be directed step by step to enter your goals and the actions you take to get there.  The tool will also give you the option to edit your mission statement and have it emailed to you.

Whatever method you use to write your Mission Statement, you need a live mentor to help you evaluate your goals and mission statement.

Once you put forth the effort and work to write your goals and mission statement, your business will start growing and you will start seeing your success.

the non-compete clause and you

Tags: ,

So you’ve joined a network marketing company, but haven’t found the time or thought there was a need to read your contract.

Now is the time.
Actually, you should have read your contract BEFORE you signed on the dotted line…but heck….none of the rest of us did either.

contract

So pullout your contract and start reading it.

Do you have a non-compete clause in your MLM contract?

A non-compete clause (aka “covenant not to compete”) says you, the distributor, agree not to join another MLM or network marketing company upon leaving or being terminated from the company you are under contract with.

Length of time for such a clause often goes from 6 to 12 months.

Why does a company use a non-compete clause?

It is usually so the company can protect trade secrets and client lists.

Incidentally, non-compete clauses usually are used in employment contracts.

However, the attraction of network marketing is owning your own business.  At least that’s what everybody tells you when they are trying to get you to join.

What if you join the company and find out it is not what you were promised?
Or what if you are terminated or your distributorship is not renewed?

A non-compete clause can keep you from doing business for a substantial period of time.

Don’t think the company would enforce the contract their lawyers wrote and required you to sign before joining their opportunity?

Think again.

Startling Truth about opt-in leads

TAGS: None

Most network marketers are constantly looking for leads to introduce their business opportunity to.

 fishfoot

With so many of us out there looking for the same thing, several companies have been created to sell network marketers a package deal of leads.  Other companies who offer training services also offer a package of opt-in leads to their new sign on customers.

Sounds like a sweet deal!  5000 free leads you didn’t have to do anything to get!  Yes!

NOT!

Have you ever heard of CAN-SPAM?

This is federal legislation controlling email spamControlling the Assault of Non-Solicited Pornography and Marketing Act of 2003…Public Law 108-187.

CAN-SPAM requires unsolicited commercial email messages

  1. to be labeled (although no standard guidelines have been provided)
  2. to include opt-out instructions
  3. to include sender’s physical address
  4. misleading headers and titles prohibited

The law empowers the FTC to establish a “do-not-email” registry, although they haven’t done so yet.

Aside from the federal regulations, you have to abide by state regulations and your ISP’s (Internet Service Provider) terms and conditions.  Your ISP bans spam emails primarily because of the added costs associated with having to buy extra bandwidth.

As you read this, you are wondering what spam email has to do with opt-in leads.

You cannot buy an OPT-IN lead of ANY kind from ANYONE then send them Your Offer because they did NOT OPT-IN for Your Offer.

They Opted-In for the Offer that the Lead seller was offering.

You cannot send your offer to an opt-in Lead that you bought or were gifted as a bonus to join some company.

As an example, Go Daddy requires “conclusive proof of prior consent” that the recipient asked for your information (i.e., opted-in).

If Go Daddy receives a complaint that you sent spam, you have to provide specific information to fight your case.  If you can’t satisfy their requirements, your account will be terminated.

Some of the information requested to support your case includes

  • server logs showing when the complainant connected to your site and subscribed or opted-in
  • time and date of opt-in
  • IP address of the web server the complainant used to connect to your site
  • referral URL
  • your explanation of how the email address was obtained
  • copies of confirmation messages, complete with header information

Even though “a lot of people all over the world buy leads all the time”, it’s still a losing proposition.

Is it worth spending your time contacting people who have had their information sold or given away perhaps hundreds or thousands of times?

People who aren’t interested in your information or opportunity?

People who may report your email for spam or cause such a high rate of bounce back (rejected emails) that your ISP will suspend your account?

Buying leads or getting leads as a gift for joining an opportunity is a scam and will get you into trouble eventually.  Save yourself the trouble and generate your own leads.

I can show you how.  For Free.

It takes a team to make your dream work…give thanks

A friend of mine sent me the following story and I thought I’d share it with you.

“Who’s Packing Your Parachute” makes us stop and think about the team who is involved in our network marketing success

As a Leader in this industry, we owe it to ourselves and to those who support us through training, mentoring, and friendship to remember to give thanks.

And remember that a Leader’s downline is what builds his/her organization…give thanks.

An excerpt from

Aim for the Heart
by Tom Mathews

As a leader, do you honor and appreciate the power of WE? Do you stop to thank and recognize the members of your team? Do you consistently show an attitude of gratitude?

I recently read a great story about Captain Charles Plumb, a graduate from the Naval Academy, whose plane, after 74 successful combat missions over North Vietnam, was shot down. He parachuted to safety, but was captured, tortured and spent 2,103 days in a small box-like cell.

After surviving the ordeal, Captain Plumb received the Silver Star, Bronze Star, the Legion of Merit and two Purple Hearts, and returned to America and spoke to many groups about his experience and how it compares to the challenges of every day life.
Shortly after coming home, Charlie and his wife were sitting in a restaurant. A man rose from a nearby table, walked over and said, “You’re Plumb! You flew jet fighters in Vietnam from the aircraft carrier Kitty Hawk. You were shot down!”

Surprised that he was recognized, Charlie responded, “How in the world did you know that?” The man replied, “I packed your parachute.” Charlie looked up with surprise. The man pumped his hand, gave a thumbs-up, and said, “I guess it worked!”

Charlie stood to shake the man’s hand, and assured him, “It most certainly did work. If it had not worked, I would not be here today.”

Charlie could not sleep that night, thinking about the man. He wondered if he might have seen him and not even said, “Good morning, how are you?” He thought of the many hours the sailor had spent bending over a long wooden table in the bottom of the ship, carefully folding the silks and weaving the shrouds of each chute, each time holding in his hands the fate of someone he didn’t know.

Plumb then began to realize that along with the physical parachute, he needed mental, emotional and spiritual parachutes. He had called on all these supports during his long and painful ordeal.

As a leader, how many times a day, a week, a month, do we pass up the opportunity to thank those people in our organization who are “packing our parachutes”?

Everybody knows that success and abundance comes from gratitude and giving.  Think about it.

5 elusive secrets about your Central hub

Tags: , , , , , , , ,

As you start reading the beginning of this post, you find yourself wondering… “What on earth is a Central Hub and Why should I care?”

kikkerland_usb_hub_guy

If you are a professional Network Marketer, and are using the internet to promote your business, you need to know what a Central Hub is and how it can benefit your business.

Allow yourself to imagine the bustling scene of your family kitchen.  Most women would agree that their kitchen is the central hub of their homes.

This is where the family meals are prepared, children may be doing their homework at the table, you may be working on your home business there.  The kitchen is where all of the activities of your household and family’s lives come together to find cohesion and harmony.

In Network Marketing, we often start several marketing strategies with the goal in mind to attract potential prospects into our businesses.  But if we do not have a central hub, our marketing energies are not focused.

Secret # 1

A Central Hub serves as the focal point of your marketing strategies.  It’s a home base so to speak.

All of your marketing strategies should point to your Central Hub.  If your other marketing strategies are ways to become introduced to people, then your Central Hub is a way to invite them in to get to know you better.

Secret # 2

If the term Central Hub sounds intimidating, don’t let it.

Your Central Hub is generally a website, quite often a blog.  That’s easy enough isn’t it?

It’s important to remember that you should never use your company’s website or splash pages as your Central Hub.

Remember you’re inviting your new friends over to get to know YOU better, not throw your company or products at them.

Secret # 3

In using a blog, you will want to focus on content that adds value to your audience, or new friends.

Charles Heflin teaches that your content should entertain, educate and/or enlighten.

We should always be adding value to the network marketing community, especially to your niche.  This value needs to be interesting to your audience…so interesting that they will want to share your content with other people.

Secret # 4

Your Central Hub, or your blog, like in my case, needs a clean, crisp appearance

Avoid cluttering your sidebar with a lot of advertising.  The small amount of income you may make won’t compensate for detracting your visitor’s attention away from your content.

It also makes it appear that you are desperate to make money.  So perhaps your primary business is not all that lucrative after all.  (Not a good impression.)

Your sidebar IS the place to offer a free ebook, newsletter, or other training information.  Do not be tempted to spam your audience with your opportunity.  You are still in the process of building your relationships.

Secret # 5

Once you have written your blog post, you will want to submit it to some social news websites like,

  1. StumbleUpon
  2. LinkInn
  3. Digg
  4. Reddit
  5. HubSpot

Make sure you are visiting other’s sites and commenting and voting on their posts as well.

This gets you backlinks to your site and shows the news websites that you are not just submitting your own work.

Get your wheels turning and generate your energies on making your central hub the focal point of your online marketing strategies.
